Just what’s in it for me with email marketing?!
In today’s world of social media and instant communications, email marketing is a very powerful tool for businesses. But what’s in it for me?!
As a business, we want to use it as a marketing tool. As a consumer, we want to be informed, or better still, get discounts!! Email marketing is a marketing channel that has stood the test of time and offers more insights to your customers than you might think.
Some benefits of email marketing include:
1. Cost-Effective Marketing Solution:
Unlike traditional marketing that requires large budgets, sending emails to your email subscribers is a budget-friendly way to reach your audience. Many email automation tools are either free or require a small monthly fee to use. These tools offer everything from graphics, scheduling, and analytics into your email marketing campaign. You can often try email marketing tools on a trial basis. There are literally dozens on the market, so worth trying something new if your current one isn’t working so well for you.
2. Targeted Marketing:
Your email subscription list can be segmented based on certain criteria such as demographics or location. You might also want to “split” or segment your list by your product or service offerings. This allows you to send the most relevant content to groups of your subscribers increasing conversions and click-through rates.
3. Measurable:
While many forms of marketing can be difficult to measure, email marketing allows for detailed insights to the campaign’s performance. The different metrics collected can help your business refine your strategy over time for the best results.
When is the last time that you really looked at your email marketing metrics? What are they telling you? It might be worth testing different days or times of the day to send your emails. Normally Monday isn’t such a great day to send emails for marketing purposes. This isn’t the case for everyone though. We spoke to one business recently and Monday is the ONLY day that they will now send emails as they get the best traction. The moral of the story is that what works for one business might not be the same for yours.
4. Customer Relationships:
Regularly communicating with your audience can lead to higher brand trust and increased brand loyalty. It can also drive brand awareness. How many brands are on your radar more than others solely because you get an email from them regularly? We are guilty of buying a product online, signing up to get the 10% discount and then purchasing with the discount. However, the benefit of this is that the business now emails us once a week. Have we bought from that brand again? Yes, of course we have! We are on their radar and vice versa.
5. Increased Brand Awareness:
Consistent communication keeps your business in the mind of your customers. Overkill is never good! So keep in mind how frequently your customer base might want to hear from you? As a business you might think daily is ideal. But is that too much? I know of some cosmetic brands that they are almost daily in my inbox. Do I buy makeup daily? No! Do I unsubscribe because I’m hearing from them too much? Yes! There is a fine balance to be struck, so tread carefully. Too much will not give you brand awareness!
